Abstract

This study aims to determine the consumers’ main reasons for buying or not buying electric vehicles (EVs), as well as the characteristics of customers based on their decision to purchase EVs. Convenience sampling is used to get data from the questionnaire given to 200 respondents who stay in Surabaya. Data transformation, rank cases, descriptive statistical analysis, and crosstab were used to process the results. The primary reason to buy an electric vehicle is that using an EV saves on fuel purchases. However, the primary reason for not buying an electric vehicle is that EVs require higher maintenance costs. The characteristics of people who have ever bought EVs are mostly earning more than 10 million rupiah per month. While consumers who never buy EVs are mostly students who are considered not to have their own income.
